Heuer Chronographs for Pilots and Special Forces

Amici, we have seen quite a few Bundeswehr Heuers and I alawys wanted to start a thread discussing other rare and issued military Heuer chronographs.
Attached you find a photo of a Jordan Airforce Carrera dato. The watch is a true survivor with lots of Patina. The tension ring has only second scale markings instead of the 1/5 scale markings.

Yes nearly impossible to find the belgian congo pilots carrera, took me 10 years, thanks to Jeff who has helped to get this one, would be interesting to compare case serial numbers, interesting is that the watch looks much bigger on the wrist than a normal Carrera.

Je viens d'acquérir auprès d'un officier retraité une superbe Heuer militaire distribuée à tous les pilotes et navigateurs de la force aérienne Belge au début des années 70. Il l'a portait lors de son premier vol solo sur SFM Marchetti le 17 mars 1972. Il m'a gentillement envoyé une photo de cet événement émouvant mais je m'abstiendrai de la publier ici n'ayant pas reçu son accord pour le faire. Il a du arrêter sa formation de pilote et a continué sa carrière comme officier navigateur sur DC-6 (Base de Melsbroek) d'abord puis sur Hélicoptère Seaking (Base de coxyde) ensuite. Je sais aussi qu'il faisait partie de l'équipage qui réceptionna pour l'armée le Seaking immatriculé RS05 le 8 novembre 76. Il m'a confirmé le fait que cette montre était distribuée début 1970. Je sais que le site Onthedash prétend qu'elle était en dotation pour les pilotes Belges au Congo !!! Mais d'après ce que j'ai pu en apprendre j'en doute fort. L'indépendance du Congo Belge date de 1960 et la date de fabrication est 1970. Le mouvement (Valjoux 7733) est typique des années 70 je pense. Vous me corrigez si nécessaire. Lorsque le stock des Heuer s'est épuisé, L'armée a alors distribué un autre modèle. Il s'agissait d'un chronographe de la marque Pontiac.

Les gravures au dos sont les suivantes :

F.Aé --> pour force aérienne belge
6645-13-107-6724 --> Nato Stock Number
6645 --> Time measuring instruments (Nato supply code)
13 --> Belgium

70/227 --> année de manifacture + le numéro de série

J'ai pu répertorier sur le net (le plus souvent onthedash) les numéros de série suivants :

70/068
70/109
70/113
70/350
70/352

A partir du numéro de série 351 il semble que les gravures aient changées de format

pour devenir FAé - LuM 70/352

LuM étant Force aérienne en Néerlandais

C'est le même format que j'ai pu retrouver sur les pontiac (ex : 73/469)

Voici quelques photos de piètre qualité faite par le vendeur. J'en posterai d'autres quand j'aurai un peu plus de temps.

Elle ne doit pas avoir été produite en grand nombre. Ce qui est particulièrement sympa avec mon exemplaire, c'est que je connais son premier propriétaire et sa petite histoire. Sa simplicité me plait aussi beaucoup.

Si quelqu'un d'autre sur ce site en possède une cela me ferait particulièrement plaisir qu'il poste quelques photos de son exemplaire.

Honestly I don't know, what I know is that Jack Heuer did not know about this special crafted Carrera watch. Hence I believe it was done possibly in Belgium or Germany ? I will ask the Man how was responsible for the Heuer and Bundeswehr relations, will keep you posted. Interesting is that we have seen so far mainly earlier casenumbers and further maybe the first use of the 7733 ?! All in all a really fantastic rare watch with amazing dial.
If we compare serial numbers we could possibly find out more..

Jeffrey Feinstein was a big ace flying Phantoms during the Vietnam war.

Colonel (USAF Retired) Jeffrey S. Feinstein was a career officer in the United States Air Force. In 1972 during the Vietnam War, while flying as a weapon systems officer (WSO) aboard F-4 Phantom IIs, Feinstein downed five enemy aircraft, thereby becoming a flying ace, the last ace produced by the USAF.[1]

Feinstein graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1968. His actions, for which he received multiple awards of the Distinguished Flying Cross and Silver Star for his first four kills and the Air Force Cross for his fifth kill, took place prior to and during Operation Linebacker in 1972 while Feinstein was a member of the 13th Tactical Fighter Squadron, part of the 432d Tactical Reconnaissance Wing, based at Udon Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand.

His nickname/tactical callsign was "Fang." Having originally been designated as an Air Force Navigator, he was given a vision waiver after Vietnam, sent to Undergraduate Pilot Training and redesignated as an Air Force pilot in the fighter community.

This is a new old stock survivor of the German Bundeswehr Flyback Chronograph with the desireable big 3H dial. On a few of these the serialnumber was also engraved on the backcase. This watch is a great sample to study the original finish and military markings.
